Meet Ana McCabe, RYT 500

Tell us about the evolution of your Yoga practice:

“At the age of 18, I moved to the Big Island of Hawaii to pursue my passion for surfing and my Massage Therapy License. While there, I discovered The Mysore style of Ashtanga Yoga under Norman Allen. Since then, I’ve been mostly drawn to classical styles of Yoga such as Iyengar and Ashtanga. I've done several teacher trainings and spent years of practice with Bhavani Maki (over 500 hours) from Yoga Hanalei on the island of Kauai where the Eight Limbs and the Yoga Sutra are a main focus. I’ve studied Yoga extensively in San Francisco with many extraordinary teachers and have well over 300 hours of study with Janet Stone. I celebrate over 10,000 hours on the mat!”

What’s one piece of advice you would share with a student new to Yoga?:

“Don’t wait! COMMIT!!!! I wish I had gone to India earlier! I wish I had studied with many teachers that have since passed away. This is a regret! Also, I wish I could tell my younger self to let go of the negative self criticism. For the longest time, I felt insecure and not flexible enough, not thin enough… etc… Yoga is the path of self acceptance and self love. The practice has worked! I also wish I had started leading Yoga Teacher Trainings earlier.”

Why do you teach Yoga?

“I teach Yoga to pay it forward. I feel extremely fortunate to have this enormous blessing in my life. I can see clearly that all humans need this. There are many styles of Yoga and a unique practice out there for you! Whether you are drawn to sound healing, Asana, pranayama, it’s all the path into presence. I taught my first class in 2001. I realized that I needed further training and only taught casually for the following years. It was not until 2006 that I fully jumped into teaching full time.”

Ana’s favorite inspirational quote:

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
